the, the, the
the knicks, the met cloisters, the great nosh
I never really thought I’d say this, but I’m feeling so inspired by the Knicks! My friend Jodi keeps me informed on basic basketball stuff - it happened this time last year too - but understanding the game more as a second season Knicks fan (better late than never) - it’s just so impressive. How often do you see a group of people really in an improvised flow like that? This is basically my set up below (lol - a wild night with .. filtered water.. photo from game 1.) Also I shattered my other Laguna B cup the other day in a fit of pregnancy clumsiness - devastating.
Before I forget, Masha Tea will be making cold brew iced tea for The Great Nosh picnic on June 20th and I need one more barista! If anyone is around that day and wants to work on Governor’s Island for the day just email hello@mashatea.com or respond to this email :) It’s a cute event.
Another side bar is that I made this really great asparagus + spring onion frittata the other day that I felt went unappreciated by the world at large - mostly because I ate basically the entire thing immediately?
Check out this cute asparagus “from whence it came.” A McGolrick park market find!
Also, yesterday I unexpectedly had like the best day ever? My daughter was sick the day before and I was preparing for another rainy, sick day at home with her but she woke up feeling totally fine - I wanted to keep her home from school just in case but thought that an outdoor garden would be the perfect place to take her, rain and all. She’s really into princesses and unicorns so I told her that we’d go to a castle with a beautiful garden (and infamous unicorn tapestries…) - The Met Cloisters. To be honest, I was planning the night before to write a newsletter How to Take a Sick Day - tea, bath, and all and maybe one day I will. But irrefutably better than a sick day is a free day.
We saw a tapestry with a unicorn attacking a dog “why is that dog bleeding?” tiny purple violets “those flowers are too small,” and absolutely perfect roses, irises, and foxglove, all covered in massive raindrops. We came prepared with snacks (yogurt, pears, and onigiri) which we snuck into the cafe (though I did get a satisfying THE MET cookie and that ideal bad watery drip coffee that really hits the spot sometimes.) Did we drink tea yesterday? No - but we did the day before - during the real sick day - lemon balm tea with honey. It’s okay to take a day off sometimes from all of it.
When we drove over the Queensboro Bridge on the way there, I told her about how New York looks incredibly beautiful in the foggy rain - partly because the brick and other stone buildings really have their time to shine, versus on really sunny days, you can’t help but look first at the tall, bright, glass towers. Even those glass towers turn a shade of earth when the sky is white and grey. After we left the Met Cloisters, we walked through the woods (the museum is within Fort Tryon Park..) which she called “The Enchanted Forest.” I tried to sing the Once Upon A Dream song from Sleeping Beauty on our walk (actually originally Tchaikovsky.. but got shushed because “I don’t like that prince.”
Fair enough!
Wishing you fulfilling spring days - sick days, free days, work days, everything in between :)
More soon,
Maria
Pre-order WITH TEA :)

1) Basketball will always be my favorite sport. It's mesmorizing and at a pro level so impressive.
2) Mona has a good point about that prince. Girl knows what she likes! Love!
