TEA WITH kerrilynn pamer, founder of CAP Beauty
Hello high summer!
Sharing a really special TEA WITH today. Kerrilyn Pamer is the founder of CAP Beauty. I met her years ago when Masha Tea was part of her curation at the gifting trade show, Shoppe Object. Kerrilyn is somebody that I really look up to as she's built her brand (a natural beauty empire!?) with integrity and style. Timing wise, the next Shoppe Object is next weekend in New York and I will be there, now curating a section called NOURISH :)
Here is Kerrilyn's teatime, from her beautiful home in the mountains of Southern California.
When do you typically drink tea?
I love to drink tea in the afternoon or the evening. In the morning I am committed to my double espresso or matcha so often wait for my tea time later in the day.
Do you have a favorite place to drink tea?
At my desk is my preferred spot. Or across from someone I love at our dining room table.
Snacks with tea?
Always, it seems completely necessary to me to have something sweet to accompany my teatime. I’m a big baker, so whatever I have made I typically put on the table to accompany the tea. More often than not that is my buckwheat cacao banana bread, sourdough with loads of
butter and jam, or olive oil cake with whatever fruit is in season.
What ceramicists do you love and/or what tea cups do you gravitate towards?
We have done a lot of ceramics collaborations so I have quite a collection. Some that I adore are Romy Northover, Shino Takeda, Mondays, Shane Gabier, Jordan McDonald, Natalie Weinberger. I’m always on the lookout to add to our cupboards, I find sitting with someone’s work in that way very satisfying.
Do you have a favorite Masha Tea?Â
I love the Love Tea. I’m all in on anything that promotes more love, so that’s the one I reach for. Also, it has cedar and rose in it. Say no more.
Currently reading or listening to anything during tea time?
One of my husband’s fantastic playlists. They’re seriously the best.
Does tea have a place in your work?Â
Yes, we sell matcha, and have since our doors opened 8 years ago. I adore matcha, it’s a daily
ritual for me, and one that I look forward to the night before.
How do you make tea?Â
For herbal tea I steep it in a glass teapot and then pour in whatever mug I’m feeling drawn to that
day. For matcha, I often mix it with our coconut butter and pop it in the vitamix so it gets frothy
and delicious. Not traditional, but really good. If I’m feeling more traditional, I’ll use my chasen
to make mine.
Last thoughts on tea memories/ sensory experiences?
Tea offers up such a beautiful chance to stop and take in the beauty of mother earth. Plants never cease to amaze me, they offer us so much: health, beauty, stillness and love. Especially tea.
PS - Journal du Thé has shipped from the UK so we should have them in next week! PRE-ORDER :)
