I recently lost my favorite pair of sunglasses! I actually remember exactly when I lost them - I was on a walk in the park with a friend and it started raining so I took my sunglasses off and I THOUGHT put them in my coat pocket, but they were never to be seen again. Sunglasses are my least favorite thing to lose, yet it’s an inevitable type of loss.
The chic black shades in question were my daily pair of black Ahlem frames. Since losing them, I’ve returned to a pair of vintage Celine glasses that I got in Paris a few years ago, but they’re always falling off of my face! I actually stopped in a random optometrist’s office and had them tighten them recently. “Are you a patient here?” they asked. I said no but they tightened the glasses anyways. They came loose again a mere week later.
I tried on a pair of white cat eye glasses literally with pearls on both sides at the Chanel Beauty store in Williamsburg (lol) but I was like .. I can’t pick my child up from daycare in these. I had recently rewatched Legally Blond and they were very Elle Woods, but not very me.
I do have a second pair of Ahlem frames which I rotate in now sometimes - pink with gold rim, so also not an everyday pair like my lost black ones, but still cute. For me, sunglasses are a key part of my outfit all year, I never leave home without them and something I’ve realized about the way that I dress is that I kind of just want one of everything. One perfect pair of black jeans, one pair of mary janes.. What I lost was my ONE pair of sunglasses so I haven’t quite felt like myself since.
All to say, really excited to go back to Ahlem this Saturday to first a foremost try on sunglasses and replace that perfect pair, but also to serve tea. Would love to see you there - will be super low key and we can try on shades together :) A block away from the Elizabeth Street Garden.
