If we were to have a little tea shop, what neighborhood would you want to see it in? Also, would you come? :)
A note on Masha Tea stuff (btw somebody subscribed to this newsletter and commented “I am a tea head.” This was months ago and it still makes me so happy whenever I think about it.) BUT fyi we have matcha by the kg from a beautiful, small organic farm collective in Shizuoka. It’s mostly for cafe and restaurant service BUT I just started keeping some at home since getting into one of them for our book photo shoot. It’s best to keep in the fridge and then just refill the tin (or canister) that you’re using. And then if you’re getting (the kg) for home, you can also use it as part of skin care, like do fun green matcha masks, put it into smoothies for the color, etc.
We are actually doing a little rebrand on our matcha tins :) Should have them in the next few weeks. Also, a little “behind the scenes” from the shoot this past weekend to show you that we have our gorgeous signature tea bowls back in stock - Asia Sosnowski made them in porcelain this time - here they are with black tea in them, though they’re perfect for whisking matcha.
On the herbal side, we still have some cherry blossoms + the noguchi tea blend left. We’ll have this season’s chamomile from North Carolina in a few weeks, and Italian chamomile in a couple of months.
Speaking of where our Italian chamomile grows, there are just a couple of spaces left on the Masha Tea retreat (one room left!) so if you want to come, July 1-6 in Tuscany, let me know :)
That is all for Masha news for now! Other news - I watched a great movie this week - Ang Lee’s Eat Drink Man Woman. Apparently several scenes were shot at the Wistaria Tea House in Taipei. Really beautiful / food dinner scenes. The other thing about the movie was there were several times when the Sex and the City music played (like almost exactly the same music) The movie is from 1994 and Sex and the City premiered in 1998.. so explain that.
There was only one actual tea scene. Before that, people asked if anybody wanted tea but the tea kind of never happened (not really a spoiler alert, just kind of a minor point that’s probably only of interest to yours truly)
